People Over Polluters!

  • Billions in profits
  • Millions in energy poverty left to pay the price
  • Decades of climate denial, disinformation and delay.
  • And yet again: European politicians treat fossil fuel companies as consultants, not criminals.

It doesn’t add up

It is clear: our energy and political system has failed us. We have been left at the peril of fossil fuelled, profit driven companies who continue to put their own profits first at all costs.

It is no coincidence that the same companies profiteering at our expense, have put vast amounts of money to influence our decision makers. For decades, they have promoted climate denial, pushed for false solutions and advised against market intervention.

And yet, politicians continue to ignore their clear, vested interests and welcome them as consultants, not criminals.

In the last year, fossil fuel companies have enjoyed unprecedented access to decision making, taking a lead in Europe’s energy crisis response.

With an ´Industry advisory group´ and over 200 official meetings between fossil fuel lobbyists and EU leaders 12 months after the invasion – that’s one every other day. Locking us further into fossil fuelled precarity, delay tactics and leaving citizens to pay the price.

As these companies position themselves as saviors, their hands could not be more dirty. Decades of human rights violations, displacements of indigenous nations, land grabbing, the destruction of ecosystems and the unequal burden of pollution on marginalized communities. It’s all common knowledge, yet politicians still entrust them with our future. We cannot afford to ignore this injustice any longer.

This October, alongside climate justice, anti-poverty networks and trade unions, we will call to Kick Big Polluters Out of our politics and Bring peoples solutions IN

We need real solutions, without vested interests, to be heard. The first step is to remove the polluter’s grip on our politics.

We demand EU decision makers listen and act on the solutions from trade unions, anti-poverty networks and climate groups.  These civil society experts and grassroot groups have the most progressive, resilient and innovative solutions to end the myriad of crises caused by fossil fuel dependency. Their work paves the way for an energy system which puts people and the planet before profit.
